Virtual Patient Exhibit
Brief Description
The Virtual Patient Exhibit will teach visitors about how doctors interact with their patients. This will be done by allowing visitors to play the role of the doctor, and interview a virtual patient.
The visitor will first meet an "instructor" virtual character. This "instructor" will introduce the system and give the visitor a brief overview about how to interact with the patient. On screen the visitor will have three to five options of questions they may ask and/or explanations they may give to the patient. The patient will have a preprogrammed response to each question, intended to further the interview.
For example: the first patient may be a 25 year old woman with asthma. After asking the patient about her condition, the visitor (doctor) will explain what asthma is, give her advice on how to deal with asthma, and tell her how often she should visit the doctor.
The experience of being the doctor will be a memorable one. It may also help visitors to feel more comfortable the next time they visit a doctor.
